Shopware 6.6.5.0 Version

On August 6, 2024, Shopware released the latest version 6.6.5.0, and it brings along some exciting new features and improvements that should interest both developers and shop operators alike. In this blog article, we take a look at the highlights of this update and what it means for the Shopware community.

New Features and Improvements

One of the most anticipated features is the customer impersonation in the administration panel. This feature was already available in Shopware 5 and has now finally been integrated into version 6.6. Admins can now assume the role of a customer in the backend in order to experience the shop from the customer’s perspective. Especially practical: this function is also compatible with the headless sales channel type. There is also good news for AR fans. With this update, augmented reality content can now be enabled by default in the media settings. This means that 3D files are automatically AR-compatible as soon as they are presented in the storefront.

Error Handling in the HttpClient

The error handling in the HttpClient has also been improved. Developers can now handle errors more easily without having to manually catch every single error case – a major advantage for efficiency in the development process.

Search Optimized

Additionally, the search functionality has been optimized. The new version offers improved evaluation of search terms, resulting in more accurate search results for exact matches. Furthermore, the webhook cleanups have been adjusted so that only successfully delivered or permanently failed webhooks are cleaned up, thereby avoiding possible race conditions.

Accessibility: A “Skip to Content” Link

Another update concerns accessibility: a “Skip to Content” link has been added, making it easier for users to jump directly to the main content without having to scroll through the entire site navigation. This is a major advantage especially for users of screen readers or keyboard navigation.

Deprecated Functions and Changes

With the new version, Shopware is saying goodbye to some older functions. For example, the Meteor Admin SDK is now publicly marked as deprecated in order to simplify future adjustments. The automatic status change for direct debit payments has also been removed. Instead, admins are expected to use the Flow Builder to replicate the previous behavior.

Removal of the Default Payment Method

A particularly significant step is the removal of the default payment method for customers. Instead, the most recently used payment method will always be preselected upon login. This also affects rules and triggers in the Flow Builder, which are automatically migrated or deactivated.

Over 50 Bug Fixes

In addition to all the new features and changes, Shopware has also fixed more than 50 bugs reported by the community. These include issues such as empty product sliders, faulty translations for custom fields, and problems with webhooks that could cause critical exceptions.

Conclusion

The update to Shopware 6.6.5.0 brings many useful improvements that make everyday tasks easier for both shop operators and developers. With new features such as customer impersonation and improvements in error handling as well as search functionality, the Shopware platform becomes even more powerful and user-friendly. If you want to try out these new features, now is the perfect time for an update!
